On June 29th, Examining Japan’s Lost Decades author, Kazuhiko Toyama, CEO of IGPI, was quoted in the Financial Times article as an expert on corporate governance in Japan. As Toyama explains in the book, the corporate governance and “village mentality” of Japanese companies led to decreased competitiveness and slow growth, forming the background of economic decline during the lost decades. The article, “Lady Judge takes her governance campaign to Japan,” highlights the appointment of Lady Barbara Judge as an external director to the board of the Japanese company, Lixil, to examine the current corporate governance reforms and their potential for bringing about changing Japan.
