In celebration of the 50th anniversary of normalized relations between Japan and China, we will be running a special feature, “Understanding China: Contemplating Japan-China Relations” in our API Geoeconomic Briefing.

During the half century since the normalization of Japan-China relations in 1972, what has been uncovered? What has been unseen ? How should we approach the underlying challenges? What is the logic behind China’s external actions and behavior? What do they mean for the international community? How should Japan understand those actions and address them?

In order to capture the essence of China’s challenges and explore how Japan can confront these challenges, eighteen Japanese China experts will each contribute an article based on their respective research areas, with the aim of “Understanding China” in light of China’s own logic and perspective.
