Statement on the passing of Dr. NAKAYAMA Toshihiro, Professor at Keio University

We, Asia Pacific Initiative (API), are deeply saddened by the passing of Dr. NAKAYAMA Toshihiro, Professor at KEIO University.

Prof. Nakayama participated in our U.S.-Japan Strategic Vision Program that published “Quiet Deterrence: Building Japan’s New National Security Strategy”. He also contributed Chapter 6 “Will America be a geopolitical risk?” in our book “Geopolitics in Contemporary Japan – 13 risks and the era of geoeconomics”. This year, on January 8, he joined as a guest the 8th API Geoeconomics Online Salon entitled “Geoeconomic issues on one year after the inauguration of the Biden administration”. We are forever grateful for his contribution to API and his outstanding accomplishments as a scholar.

Prof. Nakayama has been a great figure not only for API but also the entire think tank community in Japan. We will deeply miss his candid, profound insight and knowledge and his ability to connect with people as a scholar. We offer our sincere condolences to his family, friends, colleagues, and all those who knew him.
