Senior Consulting Fellow Oya participated in a CSIS event on Strengthening U.S.-Japan Economic Cooperation

On December 3, 2018, the Center for Strategic & International Studies (CSIS) held an event on strengthening U.S.-Japan economic cooperation in Washington, D.C.

Asia Pacific Initiative and CSIS have been involved in a joint research project on this theme, and recently launched the resulting report, The Article II Mandate: Forging a Stronger Economic Alliance between the United States and Japan. Following the launch event in Tokyo on November 29, the main aim of the December event was to present and discuss the findings of this project.

API Senior Consulting Fellow Shin Oya was involved in the panel discussion, alongside other experts including project leader Matthew Goodman, the CSIS Senior Vice President and Simon Chair in Political Economy. The discussion canvassed a range of topics, including the importance of U.S.-Japan economic cooperation, the effects of trade friction, relations with China and supporting regional infrastructure development.
