Asia Pacific Initiative Launch a New Report on U.S.-Japan Economic Cooperation

On November 29, 2018, Asia Pacific Initiative held a launch event for their report, The Article II Mandate: Forging a Stronger Economic Alliance between the United States and Japan, which was jointly written with the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), a Washington-based think tank. Over 70 policymakers, business executives, military personnel and diplomats attended the event at the International House of Japan.

Matthew Goodman, CSIS Simon Chair in Political Economy, delivered the key findings and policy recommendations. Following his presentation, Takashi Terada, Professor at Doshisha University, moderated a panel discussion on geo-economics and trade policy that featured Governor Tadashi Maeda from Japan Bank for International Cooperation, Professor Yukiko Fukagawa from Waseda University and Yuichi Hosoya from Keio University.

API will turn the reports into short briefings in Japanese and further work on the outreach of the report, emphasizing the importance of a geo-economic strategy given the current regional and global environment.

The report was featured in an article by Nihon Keizai Shimbun (Nikkei) on November 28.
