On July 26, 2022, the Institute of Geoeconomics (IOG, Director SUZUKI Kazuto) hosted the symposium “Economic Security from the British and Japanese Perspectives”, inviting experts from the Geo-economics programme of the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS). The event was held at the International House of Japan.

This symposium was the first seminar hosted by IOG since its establishment on July 1, 2022. It invited Robert Ward, IISS Japan Chair and Director of Geo-economics and Strategy, and Yuka Koshino, IISS Research Fellow for Security and Technology Policy, to discuss strengthening supply chains and the management and promotion of dual use technologies with representatives from Japanese companies with a strong interest in economic security, economic and finance counselor from the British Embassy, and experts from IOG. A gist of the discussion will be published later through our website and newsletter.

As an independent and private think tank, the Institute of Geoeconomics (IOG) aims at working out Japan’s geoeconomic strategy to build a “national security state”. Utilizing the network of experts in industry, government, and academia built by the International House of Japan and Asia Pacific Initiative, IOG intends to become a base for the exchange of knowledge in the Asia-Pacific region and to make its voice heard to exert a meaningful impact on a global scale.
