Asia Pacific Initiative (API) is pleased to announce that Takahiro Kamisuna has been selected as the third API Matsumoto-Samata Fellow. He will be dispatched to the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) in the UK as a Research Associate.
The API Matsumoto-Samata Fellowship is a program at API that aims to send young researchers to foreign think tanks in order to foster next-generation leaders. The program has benefitted from the generous support of Mr. Yasukane Matsumoto, Founder and Chairman, RAKSUL Inc. and CEO and Representative Director, JOSYS Inc., and Mr. Anri Samata, General Partner, ANRI. The IISS is an independent think tank in London and organizer of the world-renowned IISS Shangri-La Dialogue. API has, to date, dispatched Ms. Yuka Koshino and Ms. Mariko Togashi to the IISS as API Matsumoto-Samata Fellows.

Takahiro Kamisuna is PhD candidate at University of Cambridge-Centre of Development Studies. He has extensively worked on political economy in East and Southeast Asia and the winner of Pattana Kitiarsa Prize for Best Graduate Student Paper at Association of Asian Studies in the U.S. (2021). Takahiro has also worked on economic security in Indo-Pacific region at National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies in Tokyo and Centre of Geopolitics at Cambridge, as well as infrastructure business for Asian emerging market at Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. He earned MA at Osaka University (valedictorian) and MSc. at London School of Economics. He speaks English, Indonesian, Japanese, and Tetun.
