Dr. Yoichi Funabashi, Chairman of the Rebuild Japan Initiative Foundation, wrote “Is there a way to denuclearization of North Korea?” for the July issue of the Ushio magazine. It is introduced as an opening article of a special feature entitled ‘The World’s Signposts.’
In the article, Dr. Funabashi addresses options for getting out of the ongoing nuclear crisis on the Korean Peninsula and explains the Trump administration’s current pursuit of a new option, making China put pressure upon North Korea. He suggests drawing up a framework for five-party talks which includes, not only China but also Japan, the U.S., Russia, and South Korea as a measure to solve the North Korea’s nuclear problem, which could return the Northeast Asian region to the unsettled condition as in the early 20th century.
