Asia Pacific Initiative (API) is a program brand of the International House of Japan (I-House)\u3000that succeeded the private and independent think tank of the same name under upon the two organizations\u2019 merger in July 2022. <\/span><\/p>\n

Based on I-House\u2019s mission to \u201ccontribute to building a free, open, and sustainable future through intellectual dialogue, policy research, and cultural exchange with a diverse world,\u201d API will focus on its work in the areas of 1) international relations, regional studies, and geopolitics and 2) social systems, governance, and innovation.<\/span><\/p>\n

Asia Pacific Initiative (API) began a new chapter in its history in July last year by merging with the International House of Japan (IHJ). We aspire to develop ourselves as a leading think tank in the Asia-Pacific region along with the IHJ that plays a historical role as a gathering place for intellectual and cultural leaders from around the world.
\nAmid the increasingly fluid international order, the importance of policy analysis will only increase. The more divided the international community becomes, the more important it is to connect through intellectual dialogue and cultural exchange. In this context, API aims to conduct independent research on global and Asia-Pacific policy agendas of our time.<\/p>\n

In 2022, we established the Institute of Geoeconomics as a program of API, focusing on \u201cgeoeconomics,\u201d the fusion of geopolitics and economics. It aims to conduct research and study in the areas of economic security, China, the US and Europe, the international security order, and emerging technology, as well as to form a high-level community between policymakers in the economic security field and companies that operate globally.
\nThe IHJ\u2019s mission is to \u201cContribute to building a free, open, and sustainable future through intellectual dialogue, policy research, and cultural exchange with a diverse world\u201d. API, which promotes the think tank realm at the IHJ, will pioneer a new era by joining forces of our in-house researchers, visiting researchers, and senior fellows, with the support of domestic and international political, governmental, and business leaders.<\/p>\n

September 2011: Rebuild Japan Initiative Foundation (RJIF) is established (Founder: Yoichi Funabashi)
\nJuly 2017: RJIF is reconstituted to form Asia Pacific Initiative (API)
