The book examines how the Indo-Pacific countries, including Japan, Europe, and the United States, can maintain and develop the liberal international order (LIO) and promote democratic standards and rule-based norms in the Asia-Pacific region and the world.<\/p>\n

      The Crisis of Liberalism: International Order and Japan (Brookings Institution Press)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n

      \u201cThe Crisis of Liberal Internationalism: Japan and the World Order” was published by Brookings Institution Press in February 2020, and a Japanese edition of the book was published by Toyo Keizai Shinposha in August 2020. The book consists of two main parts: Japan’s foreign policy and its governance style. The first half of the book discusses a wide range of international issues, including the promotion of multilateral trade, the nuclear threat of North Korea, and the rise of China, while the second half of the book provides an in-depth look at issues such as populism and journalism in Japan.       On October 25, 2022, the Institute of Geoeconomics at the International House of Japan held a public seminar on how the Indo-Pacific countries, led by the U.S. and Japan, and the European Union (EU) should form a free and open international order that abides by the rules, and how to protect shared values such as freedom, democracy, and the rule of law in the face of intensifying competition between the U.S. and China and Russia’s aggression in Ukraine. We invited leading practitioners and experts from Japan, the U.S., Europe, and Asia, as panelists and held a hybrid discussion. <\/strong><\/p>\n
